Ella’s Penguin Paradise Adventure!

Hi! Last Monday we had the most amazing time! We rented a car and drove to see AFRICAN PENGUINS at Boulders Beach, Cape Town. These penguins were so cute! They waddled around on the sand and looked adorable. This species used to be called Jackass Penguins because of their donkey-like sound, but when it was discovered that other penguin species made that noise too they were renamed African Penguins. We went to two beaches to see the penguins. The second was filled with people but we got to see newborn penguins, eggs, and all ages of penguins living together. On the first beach, we were the only people there and the penguins swam in the water but also walked around with us. After the penguins, we drove to the Cape of Good Hope for a two hour hike. It was very beautiful and it had its own private beach! The walk down to the beach must have had about a hundred enormous stairs, but once we got to the shore it was worth it. Cool, white, soft sand made from crushed shells welcomed our aching feet. Another steep slope rolled down to the water. Asher and I put aside cleanliness, lay on our sides, and tumbled down the hill! We laboriously trekked up the steep sandy mound another two times, always rolling down again. We thought we had convinced Troy to join us, when he jumped up as we were rolling and ran down the hill!, claiming victory over a non-existent race. We didn’t realize he had cheated (we were tumbling down the slope) until we saw video evidence of his treachery. After we’d had our fun at the beach we drove to a very nice restaurant called Thirty Ate and had dinner. We then went home for a couple episodes of the TV show Dexter and fell asleep.

Love you guys (4-13-9  11-6-13-10-21-1-13-23!)!
