My Perfect time in Portugal by Asher

Hi everyone! Today, after we woke up at Oran’s and Ria’s apartment, we quickly got packed up and we left for the airport. Ria came with us while Oran went to work and then we had to say goodbye to them, which was really sad(we will see them again in Israel, so do not despair). At security, there was this one really annoying lady who kept checking everything and declared cream a liquid. Then, we flew all the way to Lisbon, where we got to our hotel and explored the streets for a little bit. The streets were actually very cool and after we had dinner, we went back home and went to sleep. I’m excited about what we’ll do for the rest of our time here in Lisbon.

The next day was very fun! We walked across the streets and after booking a tour for tomorrow, we saw a sort of parade where the police were lifting a religious statue. I’m not sure what was going on, but it was very LOUD and everyone took it very seriously, so I assume it was serious. Later, we just saw the regular street life in Lisbon and then we stopped to eat a shrimp salad, which tasted great. After we roamed around for a bit, we went back home and then we went out to dinner where we saw a bunch of people sing! It wasn’t very impressive and Aba was bored out of his mind, but it was fun to see the music there and I was excited for the tour tomorrow.

Today was very exciting! We started off by eating a yummy cinnamon roll and then going to the tour that we booked yesterday. We met a very nice couple named Jerry and Trina, who were from Hawaii, and they apparently are big time travelers like us! They visited a lot of exotic locations like us and Trina also volunteered at a hospital! Once the tour began, we drove off to see a very cool garden structure that had a fort layout. On the water, there was green moss everywhere and I wanted to step on it! I loved the scenery though and we even saw a Siamese Cat! Afterward, we drove off to eat lunch and I had a delicious meat course! The meat tasted very good and all the adults drank something with a ton of alcohol in it. Troy even turned pink!!! After we left, we drove off to the MOST WESTERN POINT IN ALL OF EUROPE and we took some great photos there. It was too windy there so then we went to a museum, where we concluded our tour. Once we drove back home, we didn’t do much else and we had a nice dinner of garlic omeletes. I can’t wait for tomorrow.

It looks like you can walk on it!

Today was mostly about the history of Portugal and the city of Lisbon. In a nutshell, they had a very good friendship with England and they were at odds with Spain multiple times. In addition, there was one guy who wrote a tale based off of true events in a style that mimicked the Odyssey, which was written by Homer a long time ago. Anyway, his ship capsized and he had to choose between saving his one manuscript of this work or his girlfriend, and he chose the writings!!!! It was hilarious in my opinion and there was a statue of him right outside where we were staying. We also learned about an earthquake that occurred in November of 1755 that killed 1/3 of Lisbon’s population and the only parts of the town that were spared were the areas where the criminals and thugs hung out and the old Jewish quarter! To top that off, it was during All Saints Day, so it was a big deal and sign of God back then. We also saw different sightings and we even went on another tour and saw the various restaurants and people here. I loved that tour and we had a delicious fish for dinner.

Today was shorter than most days, but it was still incredibly fun. We started off by walking around the streets and we found a barbershop with tons of hilarious beard and mustache options! Aba got the mustache called “The Communist” and after a while, we FINALLY got to see Spider-Man: Far From Home. It was EXCELLENT and after that, we rested for one hour before doing one of the TOP TEN HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ENTIRE WORLD TRIP! We went over to the large apartment of three drag queens and then we dressed up in drag! It was very fun and we all got to choose cool stage names. I was Sky, Ella was Crembole, Aba was lollipop, Troy’s was Alviera Verde, which I have no idea how he came up with. I actually looked good in women’s clothing and we even got to cook in the dresses! I made a cabbage soup and we had an excellent dinner of codfish and cabbage soup, which tasted very good. After a little while, we watched them all perform and they did awesome songs! They were really in sync and we also tried some homemade tarts with cinnamon, which were very good. It was honestly a great night and I will never forget the awesome experience we had that night.

One of the queens used to be this wrestler, which I thought was weird and cool.

Our final day in Portugal was very fun but also short. First, we went around for last-minute shopping and we ended up buying a bunch of awesome shirts for ourselves and our friends. We then, after just walking for a while, had dinner at a plaza with an amazing viewpoint. After going back home, we basically just chilled out for the rest of the day and watched some TV. I had a lot of fun here in Portugal even if it felt shorter than some of our other trips.
